My limitation was to use paper and wire to create the basic outline of an elephant. I will sculpt around the elephant with clay paper, so my limitation would be using mainly paper. The elephant is supposed to stand and be as life like as I can get it. So far I've already created the wire skeleton and taped some newspaper around it. When I put the paper clay around the newspaper, I expect it to be a fair interpretation of a small elephant.
The project that I enjoyed the most from this unit was the task party. The task party was so much fun because the day is full of random assignments and people being brought together to do that random assignment. Our problem/assignment was to create flowers out of paper. We drew a bunch of flowers and a flower crown all out of paper and marker. We then cut them out and named someone "flower king" after throwing the paper flowers on them.
My project for artist observe wasn't the most observational, but was fun nonetheless. I took my favorite quote and spray painted it onto a poster board. First, we spray painted the board a mixture of oranges, yellows, and pinks. Then I cut out all of the letters of the quote and arranged and glued them onto the board. Since the quote is relative to stars, I spray painted the uncovered areas purple, black, a little green, and some white spots for the stars. I removed the letters to show the color underneath.
Is copying okay?
At first, when I saw some pictures of artists "copying" other's work, I took it as some form of plagiarism. Parents, adults, or anyone over the age of thirty always told us that stealing wasn't okay in any form. That included art. But when we went through the unit, I realized that nothing is original. Everything has been taken from something else, it had just had its own unique flare to it. There have been so many ideas and creations throughout the world, making it impossible to be completely original. My final project was a mash up between the popular brands Walmart and Gucci. Of course, everyone knows what Walmart is and Gucci has become one of the images of fashion. They are two completely different places with two completely separate styles. And, obviously, they are not mine. I took these two polar objects and made them into one. The merit would be the fact that they are both very popular places that have been around for such a long time, and no one probably thought of them as one place. |
