Is copying okay?
At first, when I saw some pictures of artists "copying" other's work, I took it as some form of plagiarism. Parents, adults, or anyone over the age of thirty always told us that stealing wasn't okay in any form. That included art. But when we went through the unit, I realized that nothing is original. Everything has been taken from something else, it had just had its own unique flare to it. There have been so many ideas and creations throughout the world, making it impossible to be completely original.
My final project was a mash up between the popular brands Walmart and Gucci. Of course, everyone knows what Walmart is and Gucci has become one of the images of fashion. They are two completely different places with two completely separate styles. And, obviously, they are not mine. I took these two polar objects and made them into one. The merit would be the fact that they are both very popular places that have been around for such a long time, and no one probably thought of them as one place.
